A peaceful May Day rally turned violent near darkness in Seattle Washington. Police attacked the crowd using stun grenades and tear gas. Some protesters vented their rage at the system by smashing storefront windows. By around 9 P.M. at least 13 people were in custody on a variety of charges. Eight police officers reported being injured.

Some people blamed immigration rights activists for the disturbance.  The Occupy movement, while sharing some common goals with immigration rights activists, is an independent political movement generally protesting the control large corporations have over the government.  In addition, some factions of the Occupy movement advocate for the poor, who they refer to as the 99%.

Immigrant’s rights activists advocate for the fair treatment of people who have relocated in the U.S. including humane treatment by the police and a set of rules or laws which carve out a niche of the American Dream for the immigrants.

Like the Occupy movement, immigrant’s rights organizations encourage the election of government representatives with a more inclusive point of view. As a general rule, while immigrant’s rights protests may involve civil disobedience and arrest, they rarely involve property destruction. Immigrants realize they cannot carve out a place for themselves if they use aggressive means or destroy property.

Immigrants marched all over the country with large events in LA and Denver remaining peaceful.

Cops Attack Peaceful Protester, Pepper Spray Her, Youtube Footage

A group calling itself “Occupy Wallstreet” was attacked by Manhattan police today.   Over 20 people were arrested.

A group of peaceful demonstrators who had gathered to demonstrate the social inequality between the rich and poor was walking from Zucotti Park not far from Wall Street and Union Square. The group was chanting “Shame, Shame” and calling for changes in our system which gives wealthy people great advantage over poor people.

Suddenly, police officer who allegedgly has been named as Anthony V. Bologna, wearing a white supervisor’s  shirt, walked up to one of the protesters who had been fenced in by police netting. He discharged his pepper spray into the girl’s face, then calmly walked away as the girl fell to the ground. Nearby police officers may have been caught in the careless discharge of the spray bottle.

Immigrants, many who have never committed any crime, are treated like common criminals and held in private facilities.  The owners of these private prisons make $130 A DAY paid by

the tax payer.

ICE uses the system to hide the true cost of arresting and deporting 450,000 undocumented workers each year.  Few people know about the abuses to the civil trust foisted upon the immigrant community.

Where an injustice occurs to one in society, that injustice is the property, and the responsibility, of all people in the society.  But then, many citizens in Nazi Germany still think they we right to remain silent and ignorant of the abuses to German Jews, homosexuals and the mentally ill.

We are all responsible for our government.  We must stand up, be heard, be counted, tell others!  To remain silent is the true crime!

Please Support The Dream ACT

Let’s keep bright students in the US rather than deport

them and compete against the very people we educated!

Under the Dream Act, the youth of undocumented immigrants can go to school or serve in the military.  After passing background checks and after completing their college or military service, they will be able to apply as permanent residents.

The process takes years to complete.  It could put billions of dollars in the US treasury, helping tax payers foot the bill for government services and schools.

A variety of organizations stood up against ICE abuse with it’s system of private prisons.  The AFSC helped organize the event in which a large group of people met at the GEO facility in Aurora Colorado.

The group made up of multiple races, citizens and permanent residents, and families grieving the incarceration of their loved ones in prisons for profit.

GEO-Group, ICE-Raid, American Friends Service Committee

Approximately 100 people gathered at the GEO center in North Aurora, Colorado.  They say they are shocked at the new walls and the increase in the size of the facility.  ICE is clearly planning on taking care of many new invitees.  At $130 per day, GEO group is making a pretty penny keeping people locked up for a buck.  The use of the private prisons allows ICE to hide the true cost of imprisoning 450,000 immigrants last year, a large percentage of whom have never committed a crime.

The AFSC and friends hold the vigil on the first Monday of every month.  If you are in the Metro area, please come by and meet the people who say no to private prisons, GEO group and prisons for profit, ICE raids and imprisoning children and housewives who would otherwise make productive, tax paying, American citizens.

American-Friends-Service-Committee, AFSC, GEO, ICE-Raid, Un-Dia-Sin-Fronteras

Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) will strengthen the border, add legions of border patrol agents, and fund security for our nation’s sea ports.  At the same time, it would bring 12 million undocumented immigrants out into the sunshine.  The law would give them a long journey to become permanent residents of the US, so long as they pass a background check, pay fines which when totaled would add billions to the federal treasury, and pay back taxes.

The Dream Act will allow the youth of undocumented students a chance to go to college or serve in the military.  After background checks and fines which will add additional billions to help tax payer causes, Dream Students could become permanent residents.   They, too, will have a 7 to 10 year path, and have to tow the line pending completion of their end of the bargain.

Neither option is amnesty because both bills require substantial sacrifices on the part of the immigrants in order to take advantage of the benefits of the law.  A conservative legislature has blocked both the Dream Act and CIR, while asking citizens to endure continuing reductions in Medicare, social security, schools and police protection.

Marlon Arboleada Asked To Surrender To ICE, Stop Deportation Of Dreamer

Colombian Nationals, Brothers

In Deportation

 Mauro Arboleda granted deferred action; Marlon Arboleda  waits his fate.

The Arboleda brothers, Mauro and Marlon, came to the US from Colombia to escape violence in the huge country poised at the tip of South America.  The year 2004 was a bad one for those who lived in a country stricken by a civil war for years.   In fear for their lives, the brothers fled Colombia for the United States.  In 2007, the brothers filed for asylum, claiming their lives would be at risk if they were returned to Colombia.

A few weeks ago, Mauro, who tutors students, was stopped by ICE while on the way to give a lesson.  ICE had been setting up roadblocks near the house and stopped the Colombian immigrant.  Despite having a license, he was detained.  After hearing news of the event, brother Marlon refused to leave the house.  Living in fear is something nearly all immigrants share in common.  However, Marlon was especially fearful.

Arboleda Brothers, deportation, ICE, asylumCommunity protest in support of the Arboleda Brothers

Recently, ICE granted Mauro deferred status, meaning he can stay in the country for a longer time.  Why not?  This is a brilliant honors student who graduated from the University of Houston with a BA in finance and a minor in global energy management.  The eager student wants to continue his studies and plans to take the GRE exam, a requirement for students who seek advanced degrees.  Mauro wants to study mechanical engineering at the University of Houston.

Now it is Marlon’s turn.  ICE has asked him to turn himself in assuring the youth he will be granted deferred status, as well.  Why the youth must subject himself to ICE detention if the agency plans to grant him deferred status remains to be seen.   The community is concerned for both brothers and has come to support them.  Please sign their petition and help these brothers remain in the US.

The US cannot continue to deport it’s brightest people and continue to compete in a world economy.   Worse, it cannot continue to educate youths, then attempt to compete against them after deporting them, and not fall behind in world affairs.  The practice of deporting capable young people to satisfy quotas must come to a stop.  That is why Rep. Luis Gutierrez has proposed Pres. Barak Obama issue an executive order haling deportation of Dream eligible students pending a willing congress who addresses our broken immigration system.

Please support these two brothers and sign their petition.  Let’s make this a better America for everyone who wants to live the American Dream!

Mohammad Abdollahi Asks Help For Andy Mathe, Dreamer Detained

Andy Mathe

Dreamer, Andy-Mathe, Mathe, ICE, Deportation

“One, two, three o’clock four o’clock rock.  We are going to rock, rock rock tonight.”  While the words to the song sound great, there won’t be any rocking for Andy Mathe.   Immigration detention is not a place where things rock.  Rather, it is a place where time stands still, where futures are unsure, where loss of liberty and unpleasant living conditions are tolerated on the chance justice will finally be done.   That is where Andy is tonight, waiting to find out what his future will be in an ICE prison.

The Mathe family fled to Atlanta, Georgia, from Rwanda, South Africa.  Life takes on a different meaning in Rwanda.  Perhaps better said, life has little meaning if you don’t walk on the popular side of the political sidewalk.   where they kill people who don’t side with current political ideas.  After family members received death threats, they came to the US and asked for Asylum.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rescue Children At Risk
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Making a case out for asylum is not as easy as it might sound.  Nothing is automatic, and many people don’t qualify.  Or at least that is what the judge says, and the judge almost always gets his way.

Andy Mathe is still in jail, ICE is currently reviewing his case and will soon decide whether he’ll be deported back to Africa where he could be killed, or returned to the safety of his family in Atlanta, Georgia.

Call ICE: Demand Safety for Mathe Family

The family needs your help, we need to convince ICE they need to grant deferred action for the family.  Please make a call to ICE for the Mathe family, your 30 second call can be the difference we need:

“I am calling to ask that Andy Mathe (A#88-488-386) and his family be allowed to stay. If deported the entire family could be killed, please grant deferred action for the Mathe Family, their life is in danger.”

Janet Napolitano: 202-282-8495

John Morton: 202-732-3000

If you need any additional motivation please check out this video of Hope pleading for support for her son, Andy.
