Colombian Immigrant Gregorio Uribe Mixing First Solo Album

 Musical Visionary

Folkloric Musician

Dreamer From Colombia

Mixing First Solo Album

Steps To Fame and Fortune

Those who follow Gregorio Uribe are mostly convinced.  It is not if, but when, will this brilliant musical talent strike it big in the US market?  Every great musician remembers his first solo album and Uribe has been working on this one long enough, he will have many memories from the effort!    Judging by the you tube video he did to keep people up to date, it is going to be a great album!

The Colombian immigrant who came to study music in the US already has a strong following.  In a sense, to have a name and play some of the most prestigious clubs in New York City is hitting it big.  In addition to playing the Zinc bar, Uribe and the band he formed called the Uribe Big Band Latino, have played the Iridium Jazz Club, set up a concert series in Central Park and toured Colombia.

They also have a hit single out called Caribe Contigo.

The solo album may be what puts Uribe all over the map.  That is to say, since he has made a big splash in the Big Apple, how much more will it take for the rest of the country to catch on?  Uribe has taken the risky path of mixing folkloric melodies with the big band sound.  He could have fallen on his face, but quite the opposite.  The band and the music are respected and gaining fans the world over.  It will take a little luck and continued good management on Uribe’s part to pull the rest off, to land him on the stage with the biggest names in US music.  When that jet takes off, the humble writer, director and performer will be able to claim a position along with the best composer of the year.

Hang on to your seats.  Uribe is just getting started.  His music is original, well arranged, and always leaves you thinking and wanting more.  Those who are in the know will want to keep a sharp watch out for Uribe, who has a knack for developing trends.

Please enjoy the piece played.  This is a wonderful arrangement.  You can also buy music from the Uribe Big Band Site.

ICE Ignores Morton Guidelines For Deportation, Races Teacher Out Of Country

High School Spanish Teacher

DEPORTED!

No Criminal History

Prostate Cancer Survivor

Married US Citizen

Five year old step-daughter cries for her “Papa”

Esterny Ironche, an immigrant from Spain, was deported by ICE last week despite new rules which should have allowed him to stay. According to the Houston Chronicle, despite being directed to do so, ICE has not started to review thousands of cases to determine which immigrants qualify for new guidelines from an August 18th memorandum handed down by John Morton, Director of ICE.  The guidelines allow prosecutors “discretion” in the way they handle cases.  Prosecutors can choose not to prosecute cases which pose little security risk.  Factors to be considered include age, Ironche was 55, whether the immigrant has a criminal history, Ironche had none, the immigrant’s health status, Ironche  and ties the immigrant has with this country and his home country.  Marriage to a US citizen was a strong factor in Irounche’s favor.

According to the Houston Chronicle, it is as if ICE never heard of the letter from it’s director.   The agency is ignoring the guidelines that could save thousands of immigrants the agony of broken families, as ICE continues hustling as many immigrants over the border as it possibly can. Last year, ICE deported a record number of people, just under 500,000.  Presumably, the agency is waiting for instructions on how to evaluate cases before it begins to review an approximate 300,000 immigrants in the process of being deported.

Sha’Vonne Ironche, Isterny’s wife, was distraught after receiving a phone call from her husband who was placed into ICE custody on August 5th.   Last Tuesday, Immigration officials told the imprisoned school teacher to have his bag packed by 5:00 that night because he was being deported.  Upon hearing the news, Sha’Vonne fainted and had to be taken home by her mother who was called by school offiicials.

Ironche taught high school Spanish under a current work permit which had been renewed for years.  He came to the US legally but over-stayed his visa 15 years ago.  In 1995, he applied for a green card after marrying another girl.  The green card application was denied after the couple later divorced.  Ironche married Sha’Vonne in 2009.  Officials grilled Ironche about the marriage when a new green card application was submitted in 2010.

Esterney Ironche was a great American who contributed to his students, his community and his church.  He posed no threat to his community and in fact was a credit to his community.   How many Spanish students would relish the chance to study under a professor whose learned to speak in Spain?  Ironche’s desperate fight to remain an American was lost when a rogue agency blazed forward with it’s own agenda, more concerned with performing quotas than conforming to the spirit of directives from superiors.  A good place to start in the Ironche case is to fire those officials who are responsible for this travesty of justice.

The wreck left behind, a five year old with no father, students with no teacher, a wife who will struggle to make house payments, and if she is not able to, a bank that must deal with another foreclosure, all so ICE can brag about it’s great deportation record, is a tragic testament to what has become justice in America.  We must have a secure country to enjoy a secure society.  While ICE has made great strides in stopping international sex trafficking and drug smuggling, they are failing the American people when it comes to keeping productive people in the country rather than exporting our talent to compete against us.  As for family values and keeping the family unit together, ICE divides families with the stone cold precision of a well practiced divorce attorney.  While it will be decades before the damage this agency is doing to families can be tallied, a child sliced from a parent can tell in only minutes .

Those who believe they are safe after the Morton letter should take heed.   Like a freight train with no brakes, the massive federal agency which has gone to great lengths to apprehend and deport immigrants cannot be stopped on a dime.   Since ICE refuses to follow the orders of even it’s director, the best way to resolve immigration problems is through Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) including the Dream Act.   These kinds of laws don’t get passed without a tremendous effort from concerned citizens and immigrants.  No person has the luxury of sitting on the sidelines waiting to see what will happen.  As a five year old child cries out for
“Papa”, the future of many lives remains at stake.

One Day Under The Rainbow Is My Love

One thing we never have to worry about is me becoming a professional singer!

Here is a message from the heart.

The rest might best be left to the imagination!

If you are missing someone you love, don’t lose hope.  Many people are dedicated to reforming the laws which part so many people.  As advocates, we love our country.  We admire the strength and the leadership of those who have come to make it a better country.   We wish the law enforcement charged with dividing us the very best, for they have a difficult role to play.  Still, we believe we must keep working to improve our country and the great people who live within her.  Together we can solve any problem.  Apart we are lost under the rainbow of hope and dreams.

Please watch for news about many projects that are underway throughout the country.  Soon, Dreamer, a True American Story will be a reality at a theater near you!  Jesse said he just finished shooting his trailer and he soon will be cutting and getting it ready.  He says he wants to thank all of you who have made his dream come true.

Poetry From A Youth Touched By ICE Raid In Glenwood Springs = Master Performance

Youth Touched By ICE Actions

Children Lost Father at Strawberry Days Festival

Father’s Day Weekend, 2011

The date is Father’s Day weekend, 2011.  Children are having a blast at the Strawberry Day’s Festival in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, near Aspen.   Mother’s are cherishing the time dad has to spend with the family.  It is a celebration that will leave lasting memories of joy, and sadness, in the hearts of multiple families.

Click To Hear Recording of Student Poetry – Speaks About ICE Bust

While the children of two families are jumping up and down in the bouncy castle, they do not spot strangers approaching their dads.  Soon, though, terror runs through the family.  The fathers are lured away.  The children are left on the ride to fend for themselves.

The mothers become frantic.  The dads were gone and so were the kids!  Where did everyone go?  Then the festive mood of the fair was broken as police chased a man through the crowd.  He was finally tackled, in front of astonished little ones and mothers and fathers.  What was going on in the sleepy town of Glenwood Springs near Aspen, Colorado?

Although the term ICE raid may be a slightly over-stated, and it may not, it turns out families were not the only ones who came to the 113 year old Strawberry Day’s festival to meet people in the community and have a good time.   Unbeknown to those at the event, agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had set up a command post.  Using local sheriff’s officers to lure unsuspecting “prospects” ICE began checking ID’s.  It didn’t take much to identify the Hispanics in the crowd

ICE says it was the other way around.  The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office invited ICE to the carnival to have fun on the rides and as part of an area-wide gang sweep.  However, neither agency has been able to explain why the “area-wide” gang sweep netted so few “gang members”, a total of three arrests, when prior gang sweeps netted multiple arrests.  Nor was either law enforcement agency able to explain why Colorado gang members are so well behaved.  The people ICE arrested had almost no criminal histories.

Maybe the truth lies between the two stories.  Maybe ICE drove their RV-Bus style command post to the fair to have a good time.  Imagine over-sized ICE officers who are used to lots of excitement getting bored spinning on the merry-go-round.  Or maybe officer’s from the sheriff’s department got dizzy while twirling on the Ferris wheel.  ICE took both fathers who had been watching their children shriek with joy and laughter while on the bouncy castle ride.  We only hope they could not hear the shrieks of their children as they sat in ICE custody.  One father was released, but the family of the second person would lose dad on father’s day weekend.

The fair quickly emptied out and few of the Anglo or Hispanic families returned.  No one wants to take their children to places where grown men carrying guns act like clowns.  It must have been a big financial bust to the community which supported the event.  But why should ICE care?  The tax payers footed the bill for the RV-Bus-like ICE command post.  The reputation of the festival and the community was tainted.  Neither law enforcement agency took responsibility for conducting an immigration enforcement action at an event frequented by US citizen toddlers and pregnant moms.  While citizens can take action against the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office, they can choose to not re-elect the Sheriff who places families at risk, ICE remains out of touch with the people they are sworn to protect.

Un Dia Sin Fronteras

A member of the Latino community who heard about this raid sent us this poem.  He was moved by the prospect of losing a dad on Father’s Day weekend after we reported this weeks ago.  He was intrigued with whether the mother must go into action or remain frozen in fear.  Hang on to your seats!  I would rather listen to this caliber of performance any day than watch law enforcement chase poor people through carnival crowds.

Until we tell our stories, until we speak out about injustice, there will be no solution.  The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) answers to no citizen and no community.  ICE loses nothing by aggressive enforcement actions.

Secure Communities in Colorado has pitted law enforcement against ordinary citizens.  No one is safe when clowns go searching.  You can make a difference.  Please become a member of Un Dia Sin Fronteras.  Our message is privately funded, and it is costing a mint.  We are working on passing comprehensive immigration reform (CIR) and the Dream Act.  Please donate $15 or whatever you can to help us speak out about the abuses of power, the broken families, the lost workers, the crying children.

Your $15 makes a big difference to us!

Un Dia Sin Fronteras is a radio program and media source determined to fight for those suffering injustice in America.  We support the passage of the Dream Act so the children of undocumented immigrants, who had nothing to do with how they came to America can have the chance to go to school, serve in the military and work their way out of abject poverty.  We stand behind the Campaign For An American Dream, a “hike” from San Francisco to Washington DC to bring enlightenment to our country.

We also support Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIRASAP) to bring about reasonable and just border security and to provide a humane solution for those who help make America the great nation it is.

Obama Brings Nation Closer To Immigration Reform

The President Grants

Temporary Relief To

Dream Act Students

Dream-Act, Un-Dia-Sin-Fronteras

Students of undocumented immigrants have a new lease on life after the Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, issued a letter indicating the Obama Administration has used it’s executive authority to change the way some classes of deportation cases will be handled, including those who qualify for the proposed Dream Act currently in front of Congress.

Currently, immigrants can ask federal prosecutors in charge of deportation cases to use their discretion in the prosecution of the case.   Where the prosecutor uses his discretion, the immigrant is not deported.  In order to qualify, an immigrant in removal proceedings must show he is not a risk to the security interests of the US and where hardships exist.  The term discretion is appropriate because only some prosecutors have elected to refrain from insisting upon the removal of the individual.  Each case is carefully reviewed and no exact standard exists for granting of relief.

Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says it will develop new criteria to identify deportation cases that likely qualify for prosecutorial discretion.  The Department will use “positive factors” in determining who will qualify for prosecutorial discretion and who will not.  Those factors will include how long the person has been present in the US,  whether the immigrant is a child, an elderly person, a veteran and those with serious health problems or disabilities.

While the Napolitano letter will help students who were brought here as children, hence should not suffer the consequence of deportation, it does not necessarily provide legal status for the individual who is granted relief from deportation.  Work documents and driver’s licenses will may still be difficult to obtain.

Anti-immigration opponents insist the Obama Administration has granted “amnesty” to the undocumented youth and other low-priority deportation cases.

Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) remains a priority for the nation if it is to resolve the matter of 12 million undocumented immigrants.  Behind each immigrant is another four to five US citizen family members.  Behind the approximate 60 million undocumented immigrants and US citizen family members is the faith and credibility of a nation which claims to be based upon notions of equality and justice for all, a nation made by and maintained by immigrants.

Facebook Silences Un Dia Sin Fronteras

We have been silenced by Facebook who suspended our posting rights for 15 days for “Spamming” and posting “Irrelevant” content.  That happened after we posted a notice on the United We Dream site.  We were unable to talk to  anyone on facebook, it is all automated.   What we got was an automated response and a threat to quit posting or face more “punishement”.   We would appreciate your help in reposting this page so others can hear the interview.

The message of immigration reform and the Dream Act is often silenced by ignorant fools who have little clue the damage they cause.   Undocumented youths face horrible choices in a land unsympathetic to the suffering of others.  Once Americans are made aware of the problems young people face, most are shocked.  They just didn’t know.  It is our job to tell the American public what is going on and why each of us must take a stance.

Thanks for listening in, for your words of support.  Our hearts are with those who suffer constant injustice in our great nation and we ask you to join us in speaking out!

Please Speak Out About the Dream Act!

You can tell people why young people should be able to go to college!  You can tell people why it is unfair for undocumented youth who came here often before they had memories should be able to obtain documents.  You can tell people why it is time to pass immigration reform, because it will add billions to the economy and because to continue under the existing system is manifestly unjust in a just nation!
